Southend Sports Day & Picnic in the Park
By James Fairhurst
CRG Homecare’s Southend branch recently held a picnic in the park and sports day for staff and service users as a post lockdown get together for everyone to meet up for the first time since the initial lockdown in March 2020.
During the past 18 months, office events such as Macmillan coffee mornings, Easter egg hunts, Halloween costume parties and Christmas dinners have been cancelled due to covid restrictions.
Following the lifting of restrictions and bigger groups being able to mix, our Southend branch decided to get everyone together to have a picnic and sports day. One of the Support Workers, David Webster is a Scouts Master and was kind enough to gather equipment such as a tug of war rope for the sports day.
Maxine Simmons, Registered Branch Manager, said: Branch Manager had to say about the day.
“Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped organise the event it was a great success. It makes my job all fall into place when I see everyone having so much fun and I hear their laughter and banter with staff, and I know then why I do my job.”
The event was held on a Friday, so all the individuals we support could attend along with some of the out-reach service users too.
Our Colchester Extra Care Scheme also attended the event. The service users and employees used the weekend as a holiday! They stayed in a hotel and arranged to meet up with other staff and service users for a meal.
Maxine added: “The stress of the daily routine in the office with all the challenges that go with my position just seem irrelevant when I am hands on. It was lovely to see our Southend and Colchester service users and employees together and so happy. I am not just the office manager to them, I am their friend, someone they trust me and I’m part of their family, as they are a part of mine.”
